Summary
In 2005 Marcus Luttrell began a journey to become a United States Navy SEAL. Luttrell leaves his home state of Texas for the Taliban ruled Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan Luttrell along with his buddies Michael Murphy, Danny Dietz, and Mathew "Axe" Axelson are tasked with finding and killing Taliban leader Ahmad Shah. After a grueling hike through the Hindu Kush mountain range the group does recon on a village below where they locate their target. While watching the village below three goatherders stumble upon them. The SEALs then have to make the decision whether to set them free or not. Their decision allows the entire Taliban army from the village to discover their location and a gunfight ensues.
Now, outnumbered 50:1 the SEALs are in a battle for their lives. While falling hundreds of yards down the steep mountainside they manage to stay alive while killing many Taliban warriors. The battle goes on for nearly a day before all but Luttrell are killed in the HIndu Kush. Luttrell continues to fight and by the grace of God finds a rock to hide under. Spending the night under the rock nearly kills Luttrell who is badly wounded and exhausted, but he has enough will to survive to find water and shelter. Luttrell stumbles upon water where he is met and frightened by villagers from below. After realizing they wish him no harm he is helped off of the mountain and sheltered safely in the village. Here the people who rescued Luttrell vow to protect him no matter the war it may bring. Luttrell spends many nights hiding in various houses, attempting to evade Taliban search efforts, and eventually is found and saved by the American Forces to conclude the heroic story. |
