“And in faraway foreign fields, they serve their nation as required, on demand, and mostly without any recognition whatsoever. They would have it no other way, because they understand no other way. Accolades just wash off them, they shy away from the spotlight, but in the end they have one precious reward - when their days of combat are over, they know precisely who they are and what they stand for”(59).
Navy SEALs are willing to fight to the death, sacrificing their own lives if need be, to battle for their country. This is the life that they wish to live, giving their all out of respect for themselves and their team, but straying from any other form of recognition. When their job of serving their country is done, although they did not receive recognition, they are able to know in their hearts the good work they have done and what they have stood for.
The description of SEALs putting their lives on the line for our country while not receiving proper respect or attention stands out to me in this quote. The passage especially made it clear to me how our Armed Forces are so willing to fight on demand, but never see the spotlight like an athlete or celebrity might for far less respectable work.
